Servant Leader Scholar Program

The Servant Leader Scholar Program (SLSP) is sponsored by the Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement (SLICE) program, housed in the Student Life Office (SSCB 1.204). The SLSP recognizes students who participate in leadership development and complete community service hours during their matriculation at University of Houston-Clear Lake.

To participate in the SLSP,

When you submit your form, you can expect to hear from us within 5 business days.
 

After registering for the SLSP program:

  • Log your Service Hours on your own.
  • Earn Leadership Development hours.
  • Write a Reflection Essay about the experience, after you have completed your Service Hours and Leadership Development. SLICE sends you specific instructions when you reach this step.

Students in the Gold and Platinum categories must complete the 4 required (*) leadership workshops:

  1. Social Justice Leadership
  2. Understanding Our Identities
  3. Servant Leadership
  4. Leadership Through Community Engagement

Expectations

The integrity of our program, students who participate in the Servant Leader Scholar program will conduct themselves in a respectful and respectable manner during their service experiences. If you are asked to leave a service experience or leadership program by the facilitators, we will not recognize those hours served for the SLSP. If the offense is considered a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, your eligibility for recognition by Servant Leader Scholar will be revoked.

Volunteer Service is considered for Servant Leader Scholar Program (SLSP).

What Kinds of Activities Count?

  • Service performed for the community for which you are not financially reimbursed.
  • Service performed for a non-profit organization.
  • Service performed outside of your family unit/home and does not involve personal gain.

Leadership Hours

What Kinds of Activities Count?

  • Attending SLICE workshops, social Justice Dinner Dialogues conferences, and retreats
  • Attending leadership trainings through student organizations and campus departments
  • Attending leadership conferences and trainings off campus

Bonus Credits

If you participated in leadership programs at UHCL or engaged in service during the past academic year while enrolled at UHCL, you may count hours dating back one full year from the date you submit your registration to participate in the Servant Leader Scholar program.

Recognition

  Bronze
 
  • Leadership Development: 10 hours
  • Service/volunteer: 100 hours
  • Reflection Essay: Required
  • Awarded: Bronze service pin, certificate from UHCL's president, record of participation, and recognition in the Student Leadership Banquet.
  Silver
 
  • Leadership Development: 20 hours
  • Service/volunteer: 200 hours
  • Reflection Essay: Required
  • Awarded: Silver service pin, certificate from UHCL's president, record of participation, and recognition in the the Student Leadership Banquet.
  Gold
 
  • Leadership Development: 30 hours
  • Service/volunteer: 300 hours
  • Reflection Essay: Required
  • Completion of all 4 SLICE required workshops
  • Awarded: Gold service pin, certificate from UHCL's president, record of participation, graduation cord and recognition in the Student Leadership Banquet.
  Platinum
 
  • Leadership Development: 50 hours
  • Service/volunteer: 500 hours
  • Reflection Essay: Required
  • Completion of all 4 SLICE required workshops
  • Awarded: Service pin, certificate from UHCL's president, record of participation, graduation stole and recognition in the Student Leadership Banquet.

  • November/March
    • Service hours turned in to SLICE 
    • Eligible participants receive essay question via email.
    • Required essays due via email.
    • Participants notified of award completion within 7 business days.
  • December/April 
    • Awards presented at Student Leadership Banquet (spring semester).
    • Scholarship Award Opportunity
    • Students who earn the Platinum Servant Leader Scholar Award are automatically considered for the annual Sue Fellman Servant Leader Scholar Scholarship Award. Sue Fellman is a UH-Clear Lake alumna and was the former Associate Director of Student Life.
