Homecoming and Family Weekend: April 1-6, 2024

Come celebrate everything we love about UHCL, and explore our growing campus at one of our newest campus traditions, Homecoming and Family Weekend! This event is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni, their family and friends, and the rest of the community. Join us in creating an atmosphere that encourages all Hawks, past and present, to fly back home to UHCL!

  • Dress Up Through the Decades

    Details of Event: Each day during Homecoming, members of the campus community are encouraged to dress up like one of the decades. Wear your best dressed outfit as we travel “Through the Decades” and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of UHCL.

    • Wednesday, April 3 – 90’s Day (Blue and Green Wednesday)

  • Through the Decades: Pep Rally and Costume Contest

    Details of Event: Kickoff Homecoming and Family Weekend with a Campus Pep Rally and Decade Themed Costume Contest. The Pep Rally will feature Hunter the Hawk, opening remarks, fun activities, food, and refreshments. Get your best outfit ready from any of the decades (70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s, 10’s) and join in for a campus costume contest. All faculty and staff, students, offices, departments, colleges, and student organizations are encouraged to participate!!

    Sign-ups for the costume contest will take place from 2:00pm-2:30pm in Atrium II of the Bayou on April 1st. Bring your costume, theme (if applicable), and all participants!!

  • Campus Quest: The Ultimate Escape Room Scavenger Hunt

    Join Campus Quest as we turn our library and campus into a puzzle-filled adventure! Students will work together in teams to solve clues, unlock mysteries, and complete challenges in this escape room scavenger hunt.

  • Student Government President’s Luncheon and SG Day
  • Tuesday, April 2

    Join Student Government and President Richard Walker for the annual President’s Luncheon. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this event which will bring together the campus community to learn more about campus happenings, updates, and to celebrate Student Government Day! Lunch will be provided and available on a first come, first served basis. We hope to have you there!

  • Design a Hawk at UHCL Pearland
  • Tuesday, April 2
    Join UHCL Pearland and Campus Activities Board for Design a Hawk at Pearland.  This event will enable you to stuff an animal and design clothes for your new friend. Supplies are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

    The University Staff Association will host rubber ducky relay races in the Alumni Plaza fountain. Pick a number and cheer for your rubber ducky to make it's way down the fountain the quickest!  There will be free food and giveaways to those who participate.

  • Career Preparation Alumni Panel: How to Translate Your Skills
  • Wednesday, April 3

    Join us for a panel discussion with members of high-reliability organizations, including former members and trainers of the NASA Astronaut Selection Board, who will discuss how their organizations recruit, select, and train. Panelists will explain how these processes translate to employee recruitment and hiring in any industry. This is a great opportunity to learn more about articulating and showcasing transferable skills learned inside and outside the classroom and how to apply them to the pursuit of any career.

    The conversation is based on the recent inspirational movie, A Million Miles Away, available now on Prime Video.

    Enjoy free food, drinks and giveaways while learning the behind the scenes of the astronaut selection process, training for a high-reliability workforce, and how these skills and values are applicable in any discipline.

  • 50 Years of Women's and Gender Studies – Exhibit Opening

    Join us to celebrate 50 Years of Women’s and Gender Studies at UHCL. This exhibit opening will include several WGST faculty and students who will share their experiences and memories of the program.  Additionally, we’ll share a segment of Dr. Gretchen Mieszkowski’s presentation from the 35th year anniversary. Participants will be able to enjoy refreshments & conversation while they view the display. The exhibit will be on display April 1-15 throughout the Bayou Building.

We will also highlight this year's book, Disability Visibility, with two Houston-based poets, Jasminne Mendez and Maria Palacios. Finally, join us as we unveil our 2024-2025 common reader and make plans for the future!
