Biography

Dr. Strait is an associate professor of school psychology and health service psychology, and he serves as Program Director for School Psychology. Dr. Strait received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Strait completed an APA-approved pre-doctoral internship in Dallas Independent School District. While in Dallas, he primarily provided evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapy to children, adolescents, and families. In addition to his internship, Dr. Strait completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Saint Louis Special School District, where he conducted psycho-educational assessments and provided consultation to schools implementing and developing Response-to-Intervention programs. Dr. Strait is a licensed psychologist and Nationally Credentialed School Psychologist.

Dr. Strait’s program of research focuses on the development and evaluation of efficient and culturally responsive school-based academic and behavioral interventions. He is an expert on motivational interviewing and instrumental school-based mentoring. Dr. Strait’s research typically involves adolescents and college students.

Dr. Strait has an active research lab comprised of graduate and undergraduate students. He also has a history of presenting and publishing articles with students. Currently, Dr. Strait is the Principal Investigator of a 5-year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
