Service Awards

The University of Houston-Clear Lake's Service Awards Program recognizes the importance of the contributions of loyal and committed staff to the continuing success of the university. Recognition is based on length of service.

We recognize employees who have reached each of these increasingly impressive milestones with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of service with the university. Additionally, we are recognizing UH-Clear Lake's newest retirees whose service to the University is invaluable.

This year's Service Awards ceremony and dessert reception was held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at UHCL Bayou Building, Atrium II.

Staff Service Awards and Retiree List

Hugh P. Avery-President's Distinguished Staff and Staff Merit Awards

The Hugh P. Avery Prize – President's Distinguished Staff Service Award was created to recognize and honor those individuals who have served the university in an exemplary manner. This is the highest honor the University of Houston-Clear Lake can bestow upon a staff employee. The first award was presented in March of 1982. In 1991, University of Houston-Clear Lake renamed the President's Distinguished Staff Service Award to the Hugh P. Avery Prize in honor of the late Hugh P. Avery, originator of the program.

Hugh P. Avery-President's Distinguished Staff Award Nomination Information

If you know someone who deserves to be recognized, now is the time to nominate that person. Nominate that special team member who continues to bring excellence to UH-Clear Lake. This award is limited to staff members as faculty have separate award categories.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Employee must have completed two years of service with UHCL by December 31, 2023.
  • Must be in good standing in their department.

Tips for a Successful nomination

  1. Avoid department-specific terms and acronyms. While you are familiar with your nominee's work, the selection committee may not.
  2. Include measurable results when applicable. Include measurable results that show how the nominee was able to save money, improve a process, save time, or increase staff morale.
  3. Be descriptive in your nomination. Try to write more than one-sentence answers for each question. Elaborate and prove to the committee why your nominee is the best person to win the award. Think about the positive impact your nominee has had.
