College of Science and Engineering Scholarships

These scholarships are for College of Science and Engineering students only. The application process for these scholarships is available each year during the month of February. Awards for each scholarship are contingent on availability of funding  and are made for the following academic year.

Boeing Company Engineering

  • Major: BS in Computer Systems Engineering or MS in Systems Engineering
  • GPA: 3.3 minimum GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate minimum 6 hours enrollment
    • Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor

Dennis Lawler Math

  • Major: Math
  • GPA: 3.5 minimum GPA
  • Status: 
    • Undergraduate Junior or Senior
    • Full-time enrollment of at least 12 credit hours
  • Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)
  • Additional Documentation:  Possible attendance at scholarship celebration (opportunity to meet donor family or represent scholarship at a University event)

Carlos B. Valrand Engineering

  • Major: Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry
  • GPA:
    • Undergraduate 3.0 minimum GPA
    • Graduate 3.5 minimum GPA
  • Status:  U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Financial Need: Will not be a factor

Charles McKay Software Engineering

  • Major: Software Engineering
  • GPA: No specific requirement but will be a factor
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate minimum 6 hours enrollment
    • Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
  • Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)

Donald Mack Robinson

  • Major: Natural Sciences, preference in Earth Science
  • GPA: minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate minimum 6 hours enrollment
    • Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
  • Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)

Endowed Scholarships/ CSE

  • Major: Any degree plan in the College of Science and Engineering
  • GPA: High academic merit
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate minimum 6 hours enrollment
    • Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor

Frank G. Ambrose Systems Engineering

  • Major: MS Systems Engineering
  • GPA: minimum 3.3 GPA
  • Status: Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor

Frank and Dorothy Matthews Math Education

  • Major: MS Math
  • GPA: No specific requirement but will be a factor
  • Status:
    • Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
    • Preference given to applicants pursuing a career in teaching math
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor
  • Additional Documentation: Submit a brief paragraph describing your career plans and how you are preparing to learn to teach

Frank Perez

  • Major: Any degree plan in the College of Science and Engineering
  • GPA:
    • Undergraduate 2.5 minimum GPA
    • Graduate 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Status:
    • Graduate minimum 5 hours enrollment
    • Preference given to applicants pursuing a career in teaching math
  • Financial Need: May be used as a tie breaker / FASFA on file is not required, but suggested to submit a FAFSA to UHCL
  • Specifics:  Must reside in Galveston County. Must have graduated from a Galveston County high school.

Honeywell

  • Major:
    • Any degree program in the College of Science and Engineering
    • Interested in pursuing a career in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science and exhibit leadership
  • GPA: 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate 6 hours minimum enrollment
    • Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment
    • Preference given to first generation and to those who attended one of the high school listed below in Additional Documentation
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor
  • Additional Documentation: List which one of these high schools you attended: Austin, Chavez, Davis, Milby, Regan, Sam Houston, Waltrip, Washington, Wheatley, Yates, Lee, Sterling, Ball, LaMarque or Texas City

    You may indicate "none" if it is applicable

Kamlesh and Satish Agarwal Software Engineering Scholarship Endowment

  • Major: Software Engineering
  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status:  Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment

AKZO

  • Major: Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Math, or Environmental Science
  • GPA:
    • Undergraduate minimum 2.5 GPA
    • Graduate minimum 3.5 GPA

    • Undergraduate minimum 6 hours enrollment
    • Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment
    • Preference given to students pursuing a career in Environmental Science / Environmental Relations and students who exhibit leadership qualities

  • Additional Documentation: Achievement list - Submit a list of honors, awards, achievements, volunteer services for UHCL and or your community AND a One page essay describing your career goals

Dr. Ted Leibfried Legacy

  • Major: Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • GPA: GPA = minimum 3.0
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours / full time preferred
    • Graduate enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not a factor
  • Specifics: Preference given to candidates who have published a paper on a relevant topic.
  • Additional Documentation: Submit a brief description of the paper you published.

Lockheed Martin

  • Major:
    • Any degree plan in the College of Science and Engineering
    • Attended one of the high schools listed in Additional Documentation and Exhibits leadership qualities
  • GPA: minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status: Undergraduate 6 hours minimum enrollment/Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment AND Preference given to students interested in pursuing a career in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science and female students.
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor
  • Specifics: Preference given to candidates who have published a paper on a relevant topic.

  • Status: Full-time enrollment (12 hours for undergraduate)

Lubrizol Occupational Safety and Health

  • Major: Occupational Safety and Health
  • GPA: minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate 12 hours minimum enrollment
    • Graduate 9 hours minimum enrollment

Michael J. Mezzino Excellence in Mathematics

  • Major: Mathematics
  • GPA: minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate 9 hours minimum enrollment
    • Graduate 6 hours minimum enrollment
    • Previous recipients will be given preference for a maximum of 5 semesters and requirements are met
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor

Miles Raymond Matthew

  • Major: Any Science and Engineering, with preference given to Mechanical Engineering
  • GPA: Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Status: Preference given to veteran students, specifically Marines
  • Specifics: Renewable up to 4 years with minimum 2.75 GPA and completion of at least 18 hours per academic year.
  • Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)

Priya Shastri

  • Major: Computer-related field, such as computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, and management information systems
  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status: Graduate student
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor

Raj and Kamala Chhikara Merit

  • Major: 
    • Undergrad - Mathematics
    • Graduate - Statistics or Data Sciences
  • GPA:
    • Undergraduate minimum 3.25

Rohm and Haas

  • Major: Environmental Science
  • GPA:
    • Undergraduate minimum 2.5
    • Graduate minimum 3.0
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate 6 hours minimum enrollment
    • Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor

Robert and Star Hopkins

  • Major: Declared major in one of the following natural sciences: Chemistry, Physics, Physical Sciences, Biology or Environmental Science
  • GPA: minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate 6 hours minimum enrollment
    • Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor.

S Stem Scholarship

  • Major: Full time enrollment in a program leading to a bachelor or graduate degree in one of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Computer Engineering.
  • GPA: Demonstrated academic ability or potential - GPA (3.0 for undergraduates, 3.3 for graduates) and satisfactory academic progress.
  • Financial Need: Demonstrated financial need, defined for undergraduate students by the US Department of Education rules for need-based Federal financial aid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For graduate students, defined as financial eligibility for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN).
  • Interview with the scholarship award committee.
  • Additional Documentation:
    • Essay submission - personal statement should include quantitative data about their career goals, and higher education goals in a way that adds to our data.

  • Additional Criteria: US citizens, nationals of the US (as defined in section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence.  

Sterling Chemicals

  • Major: Chemistry, Physics, Math, Biology or related sciences
  • GPA:
    • Undergraduate minimum 2.5 GPA
    • Graduate minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate 6 hours minimum enrollment
    • Graduate 5 hours minimum enrollment
    • Must have completed 60 credit hours at time of application and must be a graduate of a Texas City area high school
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor
  • Additional Documentation: List the name of the Texas City area high school from which you graduated: Texas City High School, Clear Falls High School, Dickinson High School or La Marque High School.

Texas Scholars in Computer Science

  • Major: Declared major as Computer Science
  • GPA: 3.0 minimum
  • Status:
    • Undergraduate enrolled full time (12 hours enrollment).
    • Must have transferred to UHCL from a Houston/Galveston area community college.
  • Financial Need: Will be a factor (you must submit a FAFSA to UHCL)
  • Additional Documentation: Submit a copy of your official community college transcripts

William H. Yeh and Lina C. Yeh Research Fellowship

  • Major:  Any graduate program in College of Science and Engineering
  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status: Graduate 9 hour minimum enrollment
  • Additional Documentation: Recipent must produce a report each semester for their faculty leads on the goals, activities, accomplishments and status of the project or proposal.

Zeon

  • Major: Chemistry
  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Status:
    • Graduate 5 hour minimum enrollment.
    • Participation in a UHCL chemistry faculty lead research
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor
  • Additional Documentation: Submit a brief description of your chemistry research project and the name of the faculty member leading the project
