Physics M.S.

Your Master of Science in Physics from University of Houston-Clear Lake will provide you with a deeper understanding of the essential science used in many of the engineering disciplines and in the space industry. This course of study will primarily prepare you for earning a Ph.D. through advanced research in Physics and Astronomy, as well as expand the knowledge base of practicing engineers.

This degree will prepare you to compete in job market in industry as well as in academia. Applicants for candidacy should have a Bachelor of Science degree in a physical sciences, mathematics or engineering disciplines. You will become an expert problem solver as well as increase your knowledge of several aspects of Physics and Astronomy. All students potentially interested in completing a Ph.D. in Physics should apply to both UHCL and UH before beginning graduate level coursework.

Within this degree, you can also choose a specialization in Technical Management.

    A standard university application is required.
  • Requirements
    • 3.0 GPA
    • GRE Total Score of 290 (140 Verbal + 150 Quantitative), GRE Essay of 3.5.
      • GRE Waiver if one the following requirements is met:
        • GPA > 3.2
        • Applicant has another grad degree (MS or higher)
    • Undergraduate degree in Physical Sciences discipline, Mathematics and/or Engineering; Other degrees may apply if the coursework meets the preparation requirements in the catalog
    • Foundation Courses: Calculus I, II, and III, University Physics I and II with labs, Modern Physics with lab, Intermediate Mechanics, Intermediate Electromagnetism, Quantum Theory, Thermodynamics & Statistical Mechanics.
    • Also, complete either set I or set II of:
      • Set I) Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Complex Variables, Probability & Stats for Scientists & Engineers, or
      • Set II) Mathematical Methods for Physics & Engineering I and II

New, non-degree seeking, and returning UHCL students applying after the deadlines above may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the appropriate graduate enrollment counselor for more information. A $50.00 Late Registration Fee or $50.00 Late Payment may apply.
